Storage Systems

example storage solutions

Live storage

Some of the objectives of a lean manufacturing supply chain are high levels of inventory control and customer service with rapid stock rotation. The concept of first in-first out (FIFO) stock rotation is ideally satisfied by carton and pallet live storage. These storage systems may be lineside materials handling or warehouse based. Live storage is a high density storage medium suitable for many products such as books, videos and packaged pharmaceuticals.

Carton live storage

carton live storageCarton live storage design can be varied to suit the application and environment. Roller tracks can be steel or plastic and rollers or wheels may be supported on a slight incline by a steel structure. The type and number of wheels or rollers, their pitch and load capacity in each lane, can all be varied to suit the load.

Pallet live storage

pallet live storagePallet live storage is ideally suited for first in-first out (FIFO) materials handling. Pallets travel from one end of the storage lane to the other by gravity, controlled by mechanical brakes. If a higher ratio of storage capacity to access gangway is required than that required by standard pallet racking then pallet live storage is an effective solution.

Benefits of live storage:

  • Store and handle high volume rapid turnover stock
  • Provide continuous flow of components on first in-first out principle
  • Establish just-in-time materials provision system
  • Flexible system with adjustable, shelf heights, wheel pitch, track and guide widths - goods deposited at rear of bay travel to picking face by gravity on wheeled track
  • Tilted shelves - ease of access for stock picking

Pallet racking

pallet rackingWithin the warehouse pallet racking is the most widely used storage medium because of it versatility. Combined with the wide range of material handling equipment available, including fork lift trucks, cranes, automatic guided vehicles and conveyors, it is the perfect product in the majority of warehouse systems.

Welconstruct pallet racking is designed, supplied and installed in accordance with SEMA codes of practice. Safety loading signs are supplied as standard with all schemes.

Narrow aisle racking

narrow aisle rackingNarrow aisle racking systems efficiently utilise the available height and floor space of the warehouse. They often combine picking and bulk locations under the control of the warehouse systems. The management by computers and radio data terminals of narrow isle trucks, cranes and order pickers, working between high stacks of pallet racking, now provides and efficient storage and handling system in many warehouse operations.

Benefits of racking:

  • Exceeds current UK (SEMA) and European (FEM) standards
  • Provides heavy duty storage with access to all pallet positions
  • Maximises use of all available headroom
  • System comprises two main components, upright frames and beams: simple to construct

Static and mobile shelving systems

static shelving systemsStatic and mobile shelving systems are an effective solution for storage and retrieval of stock in warehouses and production areas. Before selecting a system there are a number of factors to consider and typically a site survey is required to develop the appropriate and most cost effective solution.

Multi-tier and high bay shelving

Extra storage capacity can be provided using high bay shelving serviced by a special narrow aisle picking truck this offers not only improved storage capacity but speed of access to the stored component. Two tier boltless shelving effectively uses all available space to achieve compact storage.

Welconstruct customer solutions is able to offer a total solution to your warehousing needs including the provision of racking handling equipment and electronic control and data management systems.
